African countries\u2014<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.healthpolicyplus.com\/ns\/pubs\/18628-19085_BFPNPF.pdf\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Burkina Faso<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.healthpolicyplus.com\/ns\/pubs\/18635-19093_CotedIvoirePANB.pdf\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.healthpolicyplus.com\/ns\/pubs\/18577-19010_PANBNiger.pdf\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Niger<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">, Senegal, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/86afc0e6632d3d855e1e79173\/files\/4b1d2bef-8668-8363-e527-4bebb2c4bfb4\/Resume_PANB_Togo_2023_2026.pdf\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Togo<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2014revealed the <\/span><b><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">multifaceted ways KM contributes to stronger FP\/RH outcomes and more efficient use of limited resources<\/span><\/i><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> including:\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Coordinating<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> stakeholders and their activities to avoid duplication of effort<\/span><span <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sdgs.un.org\/goals\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Sustainable Development Goals<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\"> (SDGs) by helping programs learn from their experiences and find solutions to fill gaps in knowledge:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span And how do we use this in other programs? \u2026 knowledge management is a process that actually enables capitalized results to be used. One program&#8217;s current results, therefore, can have an impact on the other program. \u2026 it&#8217;s not even a question of health anymore, it&#8217;s a question of development &#8230;<\/i>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<div class=\"vc_empty_space\"   style=\"height: 32px\"><span class=\"vc_empty_space_inner\"><\/span><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid\" ><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<h2><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Common FP\/RH Program Challenges and KM Solutions<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Between 2021 and 2023, Knowledge SUCCESS collaborated with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/breakthroughactionandresearch.org\/resource-library\/west-africa-breakthrough-action\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">West Africa Breakthrough ACTION<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\"> (WABA), <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.healthpolicyplus.com\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Health Policy Plus<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\"> (HP+), and other CIP working group members to integrate KM into five West African countries\u2019 family planning CIPs. CIPs are multi-year actionable roadmaps, referred to in French as <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">plan d\u2019action national budg\u00e9tis\u00e9 de planification familiale<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"none\"> (budgeted national family planning action plans), designed to support governments in achieving their FP\/RH goals.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">As these stakeholders began to formulate their roadmaps, they recognized that KM could help solve certain barriers to advancing FP\/RH outcomes. Some of these barriers included lack of awareness among program stakeholders of FP\/RH legislative policies and regulations due to weak availability, dissemination, and promotion; duplication of effort and wasted resources stemming from insufficient coordination between FP\/RH programs and donors; and challenges with scaling up best practices because platforms weren\u2019t readily available to share information with each other.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">In the five countries, the CIP working groups intentionally included KM initiatives in their CIPs\u2014alongside social and behavior change (SBC), supply chain, service delivery, enabling environment, and monitoring and evaluation interventions\u2014to help solve these problems. Common KM initiatives included in the CIPs, according to our analysis of the five countries\u2019 CIPs, consisted of:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Developing a functional platform to share information, accessible to all stakeholders<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Forming thematic groups on FP\/RH topics or revitalizing FP\/RH committees<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Documenting experiences, best practices, and lessons learned<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Developing and disseminating feedback bulletins<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Organizing national meetings to share program lessons and evidence<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Of course, we know it\u2019s common to experience challenges with executing a plan, and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.healthpolicyplus.com\/ns\/pubs\/18659-19137_CIPLessonsLearned.pdf\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">challenges with executing CIPs<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2014however relevant and useful they are\u2014are no exception. Although some countries were still in the final stages of finalizing their CIP or had only recently begun to execute their CIP at the time of our assessment, some of the stakeholders did point to the <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">implementation<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"none\"> of specific KM activities that were included in their CIP. For example:\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">In<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> Senegal, <\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">the Ministry of Health\u2019s Department of Maternal and Child Health recently hired a KM specialist in its goal to institutionalize knowledge management. The KM specialist has already conducted an information audit and is planning to produce a KM strategy in collaboration with all the key partners, as well as KM training for all department data-contrast=\"none\">In <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Niger<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">, stakeholders were currently establishing a community of practice focused on youth and climate change to share experiences and approaches across programs, and partners document interventions and regularly write and publish articles to help promote best practices.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">, respondents were aware that country stakeholders were coordinating their activities for a World Contraception Day event.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<div class=\"vc_empty_space\"   style=\"height: 32px\"><span class=\"vc_empty_space_inner\"><\/span><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid\" ><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<h2><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">How to Integrate KM Into National Strategies and Action Plans\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">CIPs and other types of national strategies or action plans are important planning tools because they help countries identify the best ways to achieve their family planning or other health goals and objectives.\u00a0 Integrating KM interventions into CIPs and other national strategies is crucial to avoid inefficiencies and duplication of effort in programs, better coordinate resources across stakeholders and institutions, and ensure programs are learning as they are doing\u2014and applying that learning for more effective programming and better FP\/RH outcomes.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Based on the findings of our assessment, we propose the following recommendations to facilitate the integration of KM into country CIPs and strategies:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<div class=\"vc_empty_space\" class=\"TextRun SCXW156367027 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW156367027 BCX0\" data-ccp-parastyle=\"Normal (Web)\">Identify<\/span><span
