USAID family planning priority countries have shown progress and commitment to improving family planning services. However, <strong>persistent challenges remain<\/strong>, potentially slowing the progress of the region\u2019s family planning and reproductive health (FP\/RH) initiatives. These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that has disrupted service provision.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfr.org\/global-conflict-tracker\/conflict\/war-afghanistan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Armed conflict in Afghanistan<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Cultural and religious beliefs that perpetuate myths and misconceptions and resistance to family planning.<\/li>\n<li>Donor-dependent funding.<\/li>\n<li>Urban-rural service delivery gap.<\/li>\n<li>A lack of collaboration among government and civil society organizations working in the family planning and reproductive health space.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid\" ><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>It is in this environment that Knowledge SUCCESS, a USAID-funded global project seeking to infuse <strong>knowledge management culture and practice<\/strong> in key global and regional <a href=\"https:\/\/knowledgesuccess.org\/content_partners\/\">FP\/RH networks<\/a>, was launched to address the lack of collaboration and sharing of FP\/RH knowledge among government bodies and civil society organizations. Led by the <a href=\"https:\/\/ccp.jhu.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs<\/a> in partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/amref.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Amref Health Africa<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/busaracenter.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Busara Center for Behavioral Economics<\/a>, et <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fhi360.org\">FHI 360<\/a>, Knowledge SUCCESS seeks to build a broad stakeholder base that diffuses knowledge management innovation to improve uptake of family planning and reproductive health knowledge and related health outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\t<div  class=\"wpb_single_image wpb_content_element vc_align_center wpb_content_element\">\n\t\t\n\t\t<figure class=\"wpb_wrapper vc_figure\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"vc_single_image-wrapper\"><\/div><figcaption class=\"vc_figure-caption\"><\/figcaption>\n\t\t<\/figure>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid\" ><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<h3>Promoting Knowledge Management<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cWe are connecting organizations and people who can learn from and complement each other\u2019s programs to improve family planning and reproductive health outcomes,\u201d says Grace Gayoso-Pasion, Knowledge SUCCESS Asia Regional Technical Officer. She adds, \u201cBased on the organizations\u2019 needs and suggestions they present, developing the most suitable platform that would enable them to efficiently share knowledge and learn from each other is the best approach to support their family planning and reproductive health programs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p><em>\u201cWe are connecting organizations and people who can learn from and complement each other\u2019s programs to improve family planning and reproductive health outcomes.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid\" ><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>Knowledge SUCCESS currently promotes knowledge management in Asia through conducting introductory meetings and project orientations with different FP\/RH organizations, sharing relevant FP\/RH resources, and <strong>building knowledge management capacity<\/strong> through an upcoming regional training in September 2021.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid\" ><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<h3>Milestones<\/h3>\n<p>Knowledge SUCCESS has supported programs and organizations in the Asia-Pacific region to improve family planning and reproductive health outcomes by co-creating relevant knowledge management products, like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fpinsight.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FP insight<\/a>, an online knowledge hub the project curates.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid\" ><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>\u201cSo far, the organizations we have reached out to appreciate knowledge management as a priority within their organizations and country. They understand its importance in improving their family planning and reproductive health programs and are open to getting technical support to realize this objective. Also, they are keen on sharing resources that they have that they think would benefit other organizations or countries,\u201d elaborates Gayoso-Pasion.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\t<div  class=\"wpb_single_image wpb_content_element vc_align_center wpb_content_element\">\n\t\t\n\t\t<figure class=\"wpb_wrapper vc_figure\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"vc_single_image-wrapper\"><\/div><figcaption class=\"vc_figure-caption\"><\/figcaption>\n\t\t<\/figure>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid\" ><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>The project also recently funded two knowledge management innovations in the region through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=A2Oi5nXVNR0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Pitch<\/a>, regional competitions to design and implement game-changing knowledge management innovations for FP\/RH professionals.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid\" ><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<h3>Partnerships<\/h3>\n<p>In the Asia-Pacific region, Knowledge SUCCESS works with several organizations to document, synthesize, and publish relevant and timely information from FP\/RH programs, making it easy to understand and user-friendly. Gayoso-Pasion\u2019s priorities for the region are to build skills of family planning and reproductive health practitioners in applied knowledge management and <strong>provide opportunities for knowledge sharing and learning<\/strong> among countries. \u201cAs a knowledge management project, our focus is to consistently collect and curate timely, relevant, and useful family planning and reproductive health resources and tools and point our partners to these resources\u2014also to connect the right people to each other and encourage them to share and uptake this knowledge. It is about getting the right knowledge to the right people at the right time and facilitating meaningful engagements with the family planning and reproductive health community,\u201d shares Gayoso-Pasion.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p><em>\u201cIt is about getting the right knowledge to the right people at the right time and facilitating meaningful engagements\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid\" ><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>\u201cPartnerships,\u201d Gayoso-Pasion states, \u201chelp complement partner organization\u2019s strengths and build capacity in areas important to them while maximizing synergy for meaningful and greater impact. And, like our colleagues in <a href=\"https:\/\/knowledgesuccess.org\/2020\/02\/25\/family-planning-knowledge-in-africa\">East Africa<\/a>, we are recruiting and building capacity of knowledge management champions to support and boost the dissemination and uptake of knowledge management messages in Asia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\t<div  class=\"wpb_single_image wpb_content_element vc_align_center wpb_content_element\">\n\t\t\n\t\t<figure class=\"wpb_wrapper vc_figure\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"vc_single_image-wrapper\"><\/div><figcaption class=\"vc_figure-caption\"><\/figcaption>\n\t\t<\/figure>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid\" ><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<h3>Challenges<\/h3>\n<p><strong>COVID-19 is still a major challenge<\/strong> since Asia is one of the hardest-hit regions. The pandemic has caused delays in project implementation since some staff within organizations are pulled to COVID-19 response activities, and\/or are dealing with the personal effects of the pandemic including caring for the sick or the loss of family members due to the virus.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid\" ><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>Gayoso-Pasion also points out that the Asia-Pacific region faces delays in the sharing of timely resources due to lengthy approval structures and processes within organizations or due to donors\u2019 requirements regarding information dissemination. Knowledge SUCCESS, however, is working to establish knowledge management structures and mechanisms for Asia and two other regions (East and West Africa) where the project is implemented to share lessons and best practices and to ensure sustainability and continuity of activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Are you interested in engaging our Asia team on a KM initiative for your organization?
